Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University Peshawar (SBBWUP) successfully organized its 9th Convocation Ceremony at the Convocation Hall, University of Peshawar. The event celebrated the academic accomplishments of graduating students and marked another milestone in the university’s journey of promoting women’s higher education in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The ceremony was honored by the presence of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chancellor of SBBWUP, Mr. Sohail Afridi, who attended as the chief guest and personally awarded degrees to the graduates.
A total of 269 students from the four-year BS programs (2019–2023) received their degrees during the ceremony. In addition, 40 scholars from MS, MPhil, and PhD programs were also conferred degrees. Academic excellence was further recognized through the distribution of 41 gold medals, including 16 medals awarded to students from affiliated colleges.
The convocation was attended by key university officials, including the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Controller of Examinations, and Provincial Minister for Higher Education Mr. Meena Khan Afridi, along with faculty members, parents, and graduating students.
While addressing the audience, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Safia Ahmed (T.I) emphasized the university’s dedication to delivering quality education alongside character development. She highlighted the launch of market-driven academic departments, improvements in departmental facilities, and ongoing expansion projects aimed at enhancing the learning environment. The Vice-Chancellor also drew attention to financial challenges, particularly in infrastructure development, and requested support for the construction of a separate access road for the university.
In his keynote address, Chief Minister Sohail Afridi congratulated the graduates and praised the determination and potential of the women of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He stressed the importance of empowering women through education, stating that educated women play a vital role in societal progress. Responding positively to the university’s request, he initiated the construction of the university’s access road and instructed authorities to begin work on the project without delay.
The 9th Convocation of SBBWUP concluded on a hopeful note, reinforcing the university’s mission to empower women through education and contribute meaningfully to the development of the province.
